Freedom Ship

July 14, 2008
Freedom Shio

Imagine a real city floating between oceans with its own airport, 20,000 residences and time-shares,

thousands commercial outlets, 10,000 hotel rooms, casino, ferryboat transportation system, schools and hospitals, trade centers and parks. You live and travel at the same time, making every 2-3 years one revolution around the globe. And all this at very reasonable prices, with 1,000 sq. ft apartments priced at $1 million with $15-20,000 property fees per year. This can be reality in not so distant future, blurring the difference between the ordinary life, as we know it and the cruise vacation. Technology is no more an obstacle. What may become obstacle is the need of constant rejuvenation in order to keep the interest of the affluent customers.

The Freedom Ship as conceived by its father Norman Nixon, CEO of http://www.freedomship.com/ Freedom Ship International, Inc. must be a place for living, retiring, tourism and entertainment floating around the globe at low speed. To be honest it looks more like floating city than an ordinary ship. And because there would be no big enough ports to welcome this giant, the travelers will use the ship’s airport and ferry port to go back and forth when they decide to feel solid ground beneath their feet. If they decide not to leave their ocean city, there won’t be any reason to do the opposite. Everything that usually they have at hand on the land will be available at sea. That’s the strongest point of the Freedom Ship concept. At the same time it may become one of its weakest points.

So far the strongest point against the concept was its technical feasibility. How it would be possible to build so huge floating construction, in fact without any precedent in the world engineering? Will it be possible to make the real estate so affordable as to attract so many customers? These objections perhaps could have been relevant some 10-20 years ago. In fact using our today’s technologies the Freedom Ship doesn’t represent any revolution. Given the unprecedented rates at which the real estate market in many rich countries develop, it won’t be surprising to find 20,000 rich families to experience new sensations.

What may become serious problem is the need of constant remaking of the ship itself once it starts its trips around the world oceans. So far being at the stage of dreams, the parents of Freedom Ship don’t think about the time when their kid will grow up and will need major rejuvenation. It’s not only the structural aging that may become an urgent matter because of the more aggressive humid environment. It’s also the technological innovations that develop nonstop and which the rich customers are so attached to. If the Freedom Ship was designed in 1990 it wouldn’t have to include internet connections and cellular stations. Today’s designers will include these and many more useful options, but can they be sure that this will be enough for the customers in 10-15 years. Nobody will buy residence for $1 million that will have to leave in 15 years because it’s no more modern enough.

The time will come to make major rejuvenations not only in order to keep the present infrastructure but also to bring about the new technologies. How this will be done, what will be the cost and who will have to pay for all this? These all are questions that need to be addressed by the Freedom Ship father even before the beginning of the real work. As a matter of fact this will be first project of such magnitude and it will lay down the business techniques for generations to come. That’s why it’s so important to think not for the immediate business strategies how to attract the first customers, but also for what may come 10-20 years after the project is done.

Vivienne Tam ”MP3 Walkman” Concept: A Little Something For The Ladies

July 8, 2008
Like numerous designers before it, Vivienne Tam is attempting to break into the world of gadgets with their new TAM MP3walkman concept. What is an MP3walkman exactly? Hard to say considering that no spec information has been released. Still, it probably won’t matter all that much considering that style is the main focus here—and by the looks of things, Vivienne Tam has its sights set squarely on women. Whether these women will also need to have plenty of disposable income remains to be seen. For now, this concept edition can be viewed in all its glory at the Vivienne Tam flagship store in New York.

Mazda Taiki Concept Unveiled

July 5, 2008
mazda_taiki_concept_torque_002.jpg

mazda_taiki_concept_torque_002.jpg

The concept is an evolution of the previous Mazda concept cars, Nagare, Ryuga and Hakaze. The Taiki also features a next-generation rotary engine and enhanced aerodynamic performance (note the rear wheels). More importantly the overall design of the Taiki could provide a possible design direction for future Mazda sports cars.

The new RENESIS rotary engine is dubbed the 16X, most likely for its increased displacement to 1.6L from the 1.3L unit in the current RX-8. It is a twin-rotor unit (800cc x 2) that sends the power to the rear wheels. The new engine is supposed to have a wider torque band and greater fuel efficiency.

Nokia N95 vs. Sony Ericsson P1

June 6, 2008

There are many territories that mobile phone companies fight on. Camera phones, music phones, fashion phones… But the big guns really come out to play when you look at smart phones. Let’s check out two of the best in the field, the Nokia N95 and Sony Ericsson P1.

Nokia N95 - the king of Nokia

It was also the first mobile phone in the UK to feature a 5 megapixel camera, a fact that undoubtedly helped Nokia sell thousands of units. But it wasn’t just the camera. If anything, that camera was the just the starting point, and they built the N95 up from there!

The Nokia N95 also featured, in what would become a massive selling point, built-in GPS and sat-nav. Not many (if there were even any at all) mobile phones were including that at the time, and the ability to use your phone as a sat-nav… well, it rocked. Since the N95 was built around Symbian Series 60, as well, meaning you could install your own software, and get this awesome Nokia to do things its creators had never even dreamed of. It was, and is, a true smartphone.

Sony Ericsson P1 - the smartphone king

Sony Ericsson P1 has a 3.2 Megapixel camera with 3x zoom and auto focus, a 2.6-inch LCD touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth and support for H.264 video playback.

The Sony Ericsson P1 runs the Symbian OS v9.1 and and UIQ 3.0. It has QWERTY keyboard and 160MB internal memory while there is also a Memory Stick Micro (M2) card slot.

But it’s not just about features, the experience of using it is the important thing. If i tell you that which mobile is best for that would be my opinion.
